SUMMARY:Hike: (Almost) Summer in Sourland
DESCRIPTION:The name Sourland is believed to be derived from “sorrel
 -land” which describes the reddish-brown colored soils encountered b
 y the pioneering farmers..but this hike is anything but sour.  Locate
 d on the edge of suburbia, the 4,000 acre Sourland Mountain Preserve i
 s a great way to escape and enjoy connecting with the outdoors.  We w
 ill enjoy a late-spring hike through pristine woods and rocky hillside
 s.  After we have our fill of the fresh air the group will head out f
 or drinks and a late lunch (totally optional but always fun).

 SO! Since it is Father's Day all ticketed guests may bring their fathe
 r for fre*! Or if you are a father you can bring your kids for fre*. O
 f course this is assuming all guests can handle the hike.

  Cost: $5 for the first 5 $10 for the next 6 to 25 $20 at the door 

  Non-Member Cost: $20 online and at the door. 
 Tickets: There are a
  limited number of tickets for sale. Tickets are not mailed, but your 
 name will be kept at the door. All sales are final. 
 Specs: The hik
 e is classified as moderate with some uphill.
 Length of the hike is
  about 5.5 – 6 miles long and we will walk at a moderate pace. The h
 ike should take about 3 hours. As with all hikes you must be in good, 
 athletic shape. 
 Sweeper: If the group size is large we are going t
 o look for a volunteer to act as a sweeper. Sweepers will walk at the 
 end of the hike line and will make sure the group stays together. 
 
 Hike Leader: Keira will be leading this hike. She will make sure the h
 ike starts on time so please arrive on time. 
 What to bring: Hiking
  boots and water (required). Sunblock and bug spray recommended. We wi
 ll be stopping for a break at Roaring Brook, so a light snack or a sma
 ll lunch is recommended.  Also, tissues, plastic bags for garbage, an
 d similar items 
 Inclement Weather: Heavy precipitation will cancel
  this hike; drizzle will not. Please check your inbox for updates and 
 the NJYP.org calendar. Tickets will be refunded. 
 Directions: From 
 Points North: Head south on I-287. Take Exit 17 and continue south on 
 US 202/206 for about 1 mile until the circle.  Follow the signs for 2
 06 south (3rd exit on circle).  After about 6.0 miles, turn right ont
 o Amwell Road (County 514) and proceed for 2.8 miles to East Mountain 
 Road. Turn left onto East Mountain Road and follow it for about 1.8 mi
 les to the entrance to Sourland Mountain Preserve, on the right. 
 F
 rom New Brunswick: Take Hamilton Street.  Once it turns into Amwell R
 oad, continue west for approximately 7.4 miles to intersection of US 2
 06.  Continue through light, proceed for 2.8 miles to East Mountain R
 oad.  Follow directions from above. 
 From Princeton: Head north on
  US 206 for approximately 11 miles.  Turn left onto Raider Blvd, go t
 o second light and make a left onto Amwell Road.  Follow directions f
 rom above.
