SUMMARY:Hike: Breakneck Ridge Day Trip
DESCRIPTION:Calling the adventurers, the explorers, the trekkers. Toge
ther we will take risks, discover ruins, and hike up a quickly ascendi
ng 1100 foot elevation. Breakneck Ridge was voted #2 on Campmor's top
Northest Hike list. NUMBER TWO! After hiking 8.7 miles of awesomeness
those that survived will head into historic Cold Spring for food, dri
nk, and celebration.\n\n\n\nMember Cost: $15 online $30 at the door (s
o please register online) Non-Member Cost: $30 online and at the door
Hike Leader: David will be leading this hike. David will not be wait
ing for late people. In fairness to those who arrive on time, the hike
will start on time. Specs: Difficulty level is 4.75, http://www.njy
p.org/page/hike-ratings Expect a steep, rocky ridge with a lot of elev
ation gain in a short distance. Although it is safe for hiking, you sh
ould be confident of your abilities. 8.7 miles long, taking about 6 h
ours. As with all hikes you must be in good, athletic shape. This is N
OT suitable for beginners. Sweeper: If the group size is larger than
10, we are going to look for a volunteer to act as a sweeper. What to
bring: Hiking boots and 3 liters of water are required. Light snack o
r small lunch as it will be a long hike. Also recommended is non cotto
n clothing. Cotton holds in moisture and will make you feel cold and s
oggy if you start sweating. This is especially important in cooler wea
ther. Inclement Weather: Any precipitation the day of or night before
will cancel this hike. Please check your inbox for updates. Tickets w
ill be refunded. Directions: Take 287 North into New York State. Cont
inue on 87 North (NY throughway) for 1.5 miles and take exit 15A. At t
he end of the ramp, make a left onto Rt. 17 North. Follow Rt. 17 North
for 14.2 miles until you see signs for Rt. 6 East. Take Rt. 6 East fo
r approx 9.5 miles until you cross the Bear Mountain Bridge (there wil
l be 2 traffic circles, be careful to keep following Rt. 6). Once you
cross the bridge, make a left onto Rt. 9D. Follow this for about 10.5
miles.\nYou will be close to the parking area when you go into a tunne
 l. Once you emerge from the tunnel, the trailhead will be on your left
. The trailhead parking area is small so if you do not find parking, e
ither: 1) go another 500+ feet and look for a spot by the side of the
road on either side 2) go another 700 feet and find the large parking
spot on the left. There will be much more room there.\nDo not park dan
gerously or allow your car to be in the highway outside of the edge li
nes. You will either get clipped or a ticket. There is plenty of parki
ng if you just drive the extra few hundred feet. Google Maps Link: h
ttp://goo.gl/maps/mFbwx\n \nHow to find the group: We will meet at th
e trailhead right near the tunnel. Please read directions carefully.\
