SUMMARY:Hike: Breakneck Ridge
DESCRIPTION:Calling the adventurers, the explorers, the trekkers. Toge
ther we will take risks, discover ruins, and hike up a quickly ascendi
ng 1100 foot elevation. Breakneck Ridge was voted #2 on Campmor's top
Northest Hike list. NUMBER TWO! After hiking 7 miles of awesomeness t
hose that survived will head into historic Cold Spring for food, drink
, and celebration. \nMember Cost: $10 for the first 5 to buy a ticket
$15 for the next 6 to 20 to buy a ticket $40 at the door (so please r
egister online) Non-Member Cost: $40 online and at the door Hike Lea
der: David will be leading this hike. David will not be waiting for la
te people. In fairness to those who arrive on time, the hike will star
t on time. Specs: The hike is classified as strenuous with a lot of u
phill and downhill with a little rock scrambling. Expect a steep, rock
y ridge with a lot of elevation gain in a short distance. Although it
is safe for hiking, you should be confident of your abilities. The tot
al length of the hike will be about 7 miles long, The hike should take
about 6 hours. As with all hikes you must be in good, athletic shape.
This is NOT suitable for beginners. Sweeper: If the group size is la
rger than 10, we are going to look for a volunteer to act as a sweeper
.   What to bring: Hiking boots and 3 liters of water are required. L
ight snack or small lunch as it will be a long hike. Also recommended
is non cotton clothing. Cotton holds in moisture and will make you fee
l cold and soggy if you start sweating. This is especially important i
n cooler weather. Inclement Weather: Any precipitation the day of or
night before will cancel this hike. Please check your inbox for update
 s. Tickets will be refunded. Directions: Take 287 North into New York
State. Continue on 87 North (NY throughway) for 1.5 miles and take ex
it 15A. At the end of the ramp, make a left onto Rt. 17 North. Follow
Rt. 17 North for 14.2 miles until you see signs for Rt. 6 East. Take R
 t. 6 East for approx 9.5 miles until you cross the Bear Mountain Bridg
e (there will be 2 traffic circles, be careful to keep following Rt. 6
). Once you cross the bridge, make a left onto Rt. 9D. Follow this for
about 10.5 miles.\nYou will be close to the parking area when you go
into a tunnel. Once you emerge from the tunnel, the trailhead will be
on your left. The trailhead parking area is small so if you do not fin
d parking, either: 1) go another 500+ feet and look for a spot by the
side of the road on either side 2) go another 700 feet and find the la
rge parking spot on the left. There will be much more room there.\nDo
not park dangerously or allow your car to be in the highway outside of
the edge lines. You will either get clipped or a ticket. There is ple
nty of parking if you just drive the extra few hundred feet. Google

meet at the trailhead right near the tunnel. Please read directions c
 arefully.\n\nFor more information visit http://njyp.org/events/hike-br
