Almost completely surrounded by water, Sandy Hook is much more tha n one of New Jersey’s most popular beaches. The combination of beach dunes, holly trees, saltwater marshes, coastal defense ruins, a ninet eenth-century fort, and a historic lighthouse make this trip one not t o miss. And as per tradition, the group will go out for local eats pos t-hike.\n\n\n\nMember Cost: $5 for the first 5 $10 for the next 6 to 2 5 $20 at the door Non-Member Cost: $20 online and at the door. Specs : The hike is classified as moderate. The total length of the hike wil l be about 6 miles long and we will walk at an easy pace. The actual m ileage may vary depending on people’s interests. This hike is good f or beginners who are in good athletic shape! The hike should take abou t 4 hours. Sweeper: If the group size is larger than 10, we are going to look for a volunteer to act as a sweeper. Sweepers will walk at th e end of the hike line and will make sure the group stays together. H ike Leader: Maren will be leading this hike. Maren will not be waiting for late people. In fairness to those who arrive on time, she will be starting the hike on time. What to bring: Hiking boots (recommended) and water (required). Hiking boots will help keep the sand out of you r feet when hiking as the trail is a mix of hard surface and sandy sur face. You may want to bring long pants due to some poison ivy close to the trail. We will stop for a light lunch / snack at the picnic area so we recommend you bring something to eat.
