Almost completely surrounded by water, Sandy Hook is much more tha n one of New Jersey’s most popular beaches. The combination of beach dunes, holly trees, saltwater marshes, coastal defense ruins, a ninet eenth-century fort, and a historic lighthouse make this trip one not t o miss! After our adventure, we will optionally go out to eat / social ize.\n\nNote: David will not be waiting for late people. In fairness t o those who arrive on time, he will be starting the hike on time.\n\nS pecs:\nThe hike is classified as easy to moderate and should last 4 ho urs.\nThe total length of the hike will be about 6.5 miles long and we will walk at an easy pace. The actual mileage may vary depending on p eople’s interests.\nThis hike is good for beginners who are in good athletic shape!\n\n\n\nMember Cost:\n$5 for the first 5\n$10 for the n ext 6 to 25\n$20 at the door\n\nNon-Member Cost:\n$20 online and at th e door.\n\nTickets:\nThere are a limited number of Tickets for sale. T ickets are not mailed, but your name will be kept at the door.\nActual hike is subject to change depending on weather conditions, fallen tre es, etc. All sales are final.\n\nSweeper:\nIf the group size is larger than 10, we are going to look for a volunteer to act as a sweeper. Sw eepers will walk at the end of the hike line and will make sure the gr oup stays together.\n\nHike Leader:\nDavid will be leading this hike.\ n\nWhat to bring:\nHiking boots and water (required). Hiking boots wil l help keep the sand out of your feet when hiking as the trail is a mi x of hard surface and sandy surface. We will stop for a light lunch / snack at the picnic area so we recommend you bring something to eat.\n \nInclement Weather:\nHeavy precipitation will cancel this hike; drizz le will not. Follow RT 36 for approx 14 miles until you cross the bridge (you will be able to se the ocean at this point). At the l ight just after the bridge, make a left* onto Hartshorne Drive. ***Not e there is construction and traffic patterns have been changed around several times, so you may have to turn differently according to the ne w or temporary traffic pattern.*** Follow that until you see the sign for the Visitor’s center (where we will meet up). You should park at the far edge of Beach/Lot D just before the visitor’s center.
