Hi everyone! My name is Kristin, I'm very new to this site, just joined a few days ago. First of all I wanted to say hello! :)

But I also had this idea for anyone who sings, wants to sing or likes to sing. I'm not sure if anyone else feels like this, but I have spent countless number of hours searching the internet for a singing group, show choir, glee club (whatever you prefer to call it!) in this area aimed for this 'young professional' age group. Many of them seem to be either high school students, college students or middle aged adults/seniors and the ones that are aimed towards this age group seem to be on the more serious, competitive side. After each unsuccessful search attempt, I find myself thinking, well what about us?! What about the recent college graduates, or 20 and 30 somethings that don't want to audition for choirs and just want to sing for fun? Maybe I've been looking in the wrong places but I can't find any choirs like that. So I figured the only solution to this problem is try to start a singing group!

I've been in choirs throughout high school and took part in an opera company ensemble in college. I very much miss being a part of something like that. If anyone else feels like this and would be
interested in talking or meeting up to throw around ideas about how we could actually start a singing organization feel free to send me a message or email me at kristella85@gmail.com. I have lots of ideas but really haven't figured anything out yet so I could use some help. I just thought I'd see if anyone on here would be interested.

Oh! And I live in the central Jersey area btw, Monmouth county...Hope to hear from you!

I'm in the same boat as you, Kristen. I've been singing for years and there doesn't seem to be any quality choirs for the young professional type. I'd be interested in something like that.
I did choir in high school and college... after college i joined the NJ Choral Society (in Ridgewood... they're no longer in Ridgewood though) and while i enjoyed it, i was wayyyy younger than everyone there.

Not sure i really have time to do a choir nowadays, but if you come up with something, let me know. My singing voice certainly isn't what it used to be, but i'm sure with lots of practice i could get back to it again.
I work close enough to Manhattan so I sing there (http://www.downtownchorus.org/), but a tricky part is rehearsal space.
It's too bad we're all scattered across NJ. Well this is what I was thinking for a singing club just to get my idea out there...

It could be a club where everyone could meet once a week to practice singing. It would probably be small at first, but depending on how things go, if it grew enough, we could try performing somewhere (like a nursing home or something like that), and then who knows! Besides actually singing, I thought it may be fun to go on trips to local plays and singing events and do fundraisers for the arts (art education/appreciation).

I know there are a ton more things to figure out, but I feel like something like this could work, and I do have a lot more ideas.

Would any of you be interested enough in meeting up somewhere to bounce ideas of each other? Either way, I could definitely use some feedback. Thanks!
Actually, I own a music studio in Clinton, NJ and teach private voice lessons. I'd be open to hosting a Young Professionals choir at my studio if there was enough interest! Let me know!
This sounds like a great idea. I really like to sing, but I'm on the shy side. I've tried Karaoke a couple of times and I have a decent voice. I live in Flemington.
I am a singer as well. I teach an elementary chorus and teach private voice and piano lessons. Please keep me posted. I may have some availability over the summer if you plan something.
Wow, more people responded than I thought would. I'm so glad to see that people are interested!! :) Well I know I messaged some of you individually. I just need to figure some things out, but basically I think the best thing to do is have everyone meet in one place some time soon to discuss this. Make sure you check back here for updates! I'll keep all who are interested posted.
