I was wondering if anyone would be interested in setting up a camping weekend now that the weather is getting nicer.  I have been camping many times and love it!  Maybe we could toss a hike into the mix as well?  Let me know your thoughts.

Ok. I did some calling and looked into prices / rules...

The place I liked best is Harmony Ridge is in Branchville, NJ. It's right near High Point state park and has really good reviews. They've got a good deal of activities and are close to horseback riding. When I called, they seemed fine with our number of people and having around 5 tents on the site. It is $15 per person for each night.

Kittatinny in NY is $13/per person/ per night plus an $11 site fee ($18 if we want a river site). They didn't seem to have a problem with the number of people in one site, but if we have 10 or more we MUST book an activity with them as well (rafting, paintball, canoeing, tubing, etc.) They allow alcohol as long as we aren't in the "no alcohol" section of the sites.

Beaver Pond Campground is in Harriman State Park (where NJYP has a hike on the 13th..how convenient!). Problem is we are limited to 2 tents per site and a max of 6 people in those tents. Also, there is no alcohol allowed.

Jim Thorpe has not been answering the phone. I e-mailed them, but have yet to get a response. it would be $28 for two people and then $5 per person extra. I don't know about other details since I haven't spoken to anyone there.

I would like to go with either of the first two options (basically it comes down to do you want to be on the water or not). All of the ones I listed have plenty of availability on the dates we want to go. Harmony would obviously be cheaper especially since we don't have to book an activity to go there.

Let's take a vote / head count and decide by say...Wednesday?
I agree Harmony Ridge sounds pretty good -- one thing I couldn't find about High Point's campgrounds was any reviews, and I'd rather go a place we've seen feedback on. And I still think High Point sound offer some good hiking options, plus horseback riding near there. They didn't have any problem with alcohol, I hope?
We're talking about June 11th and 12th, right? I'm in.
I hope it's not too late to count me in! I am always up for camping. I've been horseback riding up in Sussex County before, and thought it would make a good place to camp. I am fine with June 11th-13th and Harmony Ridge sounds nice. I would also be up for canoe/kayaking in addition to hiking.

I'm in no matter what site or cost, let me know if you need help booking anything Rebecca.
Ok. Well if we're good with Harmony Ridge we need a definite head count. We have to leave a deposit equal to one night's stay ($15 per person) to reserve sites. I don't mind making the reservation, but I'm concerned about people bailing out and being stuck with the deposit.

Count me in.

That being said, I am fine with paying up $15 if anything comes up and I have to bail. Would other people could be cool paying up too?

HTH,
Adam
I'm fine paying $15 to reserve a site too, but Rebecca still needs a head count, right? So far I see as "in":
Rebecca
Jay
Deborah
Adam

How about others who expressed interest?
Kristen?
Jill?
Rachel C?
John?
A couple others wrote in a a month or more ago, or said could do one night but not two ... please let Rebecca know your status!

Also, Rebecca: want to check what the cancellation policy is? ie if the weather is bad.
Rebecca,

I agree with you on people bailing out. I would assume that if people use this site, they have paypal and that we could just pay you via that (I'll just pay you the full 30). Just let us know the email address...might want to personal message all of us rather than posting it on the board (spam).
I like the paypal idea Jay. Now we just need a final headcount. I'll message everyone who has shown interest. If everyone can just give an answer by tomorrow evening and say if they're ok with the 1-night deposit (preferably via paypal) I will call Saturday for the final reservation.
Hi - I'm not going to be able to make it unfortunately...enjoy though!
I just saw this! I would LOVE to go camping. I've never been but always wanted to do it. :) I love hiking, mountain biking, etc. I could bring stuff but don't have a tent. Lemme know if it's not too late that weekend works gr8 for me. Thanks Rebecca for organizing!

We already made reservations :(. I am going to be upstate / out of cell range most of this weekend, but if you like you can call Harmony Ridge and see if they still have availability. I can call for you when I'm back Monday if you prefer.
