Autism is a general term that is used to describe a group of complex developmental brain disorders that parents and professionals refer to as Autism Spectrum Disorders.

Today it is estimated that one in every 110 children are diagnosed with autism, making it more prevalent than the combination of childhood cancer, juvenile diabetes, and pediatric AIDS. In the United States alone an estimated 1.5 million individuals are living w...ith this condition. Research completed by the US Government shows that the appearance of the disorder is increasing by 10 to 17 percent each year.

Autism Spectrum Disorder is a condition that has affected our Professor Almeida right at home. His son Renzo was diagnosed with the condition in 2008. Since that time Professor Almeida and his family have been very active in spreading awareness of this condition that affects so many of our children.

In support of continued Autism research, The Ricardo Almeida Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Academy is proud to announce that we will hold our first “Run for Autism” program. Academy students will run a combined 110 miles to represent the children who are affected with Autism Spectrum Disorder. The Academy will raise money for Autism Speaks through the selling of limited edition RABJJ T-shirts.

If you are interested in showing your support through running or a small donation please inquire with any of the RABJJ staff members. We thank you in advance for your support.
