Maplewood Kindness Campaign is branching out with Kindness Committee of Northern NJ, and is looking to nominate those who helped neighbors in Oct. 29 storm and aftermath.

One of the outcomes of the Maplewood Kindness Campaign Kickoff on October 1 was the formation of the Kindness Committee of Northern NJ.

The goal of this Committee, says Maplewood Kindness Campaign founder Dr. Barbara Velazquez is "to develop ideas, activities and programs to promote kindness in Northern NJ and surrounding areas. The Committee transends all forms of partisanship and is therefore welcomes all regardless of political affiliation or religion, race, sexual preference, etc."

As an outgrowth of the campaign's first meeting in November, the Committee is asking Maplewoodians to nominate someone who performed an act of kindness (whether simple or complex) during the snowstorm of October 29 that left many without power and heat for days and caused other hardships such as property damage.

"We are asking residents if they know someone who made someone's a life a little easier during that difficult time," said Velazquez, "and if so to please recognize them by nominating them for acknowledgement."

To nominate someone, visit www.maplewoodiskind.org and click on "nominate."

Velazquez reports that Art Christensen, owner of the Les Saisons Inn in Maplewood has made the site available for Kindness Campaign meetings which are held on the first Saturday of the month from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.

For this special recognition program all nominees will receive a special invitation to the Les Saissons Inn in Maplewood (date to be announced) and will be recognized in both print and electronic media.

Maplewood Patch will publish the list of honorees every month.
