New to New Jersey!

Hello all,

I am relocating to NJ from Texas this week. I will be working in Princeton, but am still searching for a place to live - still deciding between Princeton and Hoboken. How long is the commute from Hoboken? Any other city/area recommendations?

I agree with Kristen. Princeton is tons of fun and packed with bars and restaurants. You'll love it.

I agree with Kristen, the commute from Hoboken to Princeton would probably take around 90 minutes or so.

Find a place in Mercer county, Princeton and Hamilton have some great places to live.

You will hate life if you commute from Hoboken to Princeton every day. It's way too long and you're pretty much going to get stuck in rush hour traffic both ways.

Live down by Princeton somewhere, your money goes a lot further in Mercer county than it would in Hoboken. Try Plainsboro, Hamilton, Robbinsville, East Windsor or even South Brunswick - all are a decent commute and nice safe areas. Anywhere in Mercer, southern Middlesex or southwest Somerset should be doable. Good luck

Very long...Princeton is a clean small city...are you from a city area in Texas?
Princeton is also pretty far away from NYC/ Hoboken. I would agree with other responders...it is way too far to travel.

You are actually closer to Philly I believe if you work in Princeton than NY.

North Jersey is very suburban but Southwest NJ can actually get very rural appearing..

But, the commute would probably be about 2 1/2 hours every day both ways separately not combined..

I would look in New Brunswick for housing or Princeton. Definitely stay in the Middlesex / Mercer County area. Hoboken is fun, but way too far to commute. Good Luck!

The real problem with Princeton is that the roads going are either congested during rush hours or not close enough to Princeton itself (ie, Turnpike). Kingston is next door and gives access from Route 27/Nassau Street. Plainsboro is definitely a good choice; also South Brunswick. Hamilton is good; some folks like Ewing but I think mostly people who have kids. East Windsor is also a good commute. I hated the commute from East Brunswick when I worked in Princeton; it was about 13 miles for me but on Route 1 it took 45 minutes or more unless I left the house around 8am. I think if you can manage Lawrenceville, depending WHERE in Princeton you'll be working, that could be a good choice, too. I know of people who also favored Hillsborough, but I think they traded the commute for more spacious dwellings/lower taxes.

Hey Holly! I just moved here from FL and don't know anything about the area so I'm totally useless in directions, lol, but it'd be nice to meet some new people that are recently new to Jersey!
