I work a night job, and my "weekend" days are Sundays and Mondays. With Sundays reserved for my boyfriend, Monday nights are my only free nights.

Alas, Mondays are consistently free of NJYP events. I'm wondering if there's a reason for this - have Monday events been attempted in the past? Do people working "normal" hours not care for happy hours so early in their workweeks? Did members say they'd rather watch Monday Night Football or 24? (That shouldn't apply right now, as both their seasons are over!)

I can't be the only person here who is limited to Monday night events. Nor can I believe that no one wants to do anything on a Monday - even if it's a relaxed event like a game night.

Is there any way to gauge interest for events held on Mondays? Or has that day been deemed off-limits? Thanks!

Most people don't like to party on a Monday night unfortunately.
Whenever I would send out a survey regarding what night works best Monday was always dead last. And it makes sense.. many restaurants, lounges, bars, etc are closed on Mondays because in our culture Monday is often a night in rather than a night out.

I figured that may have been the case. I know when I had a normal 9-5 job, Mondays tended to be the worst days - and hence, the days I was most likely to go for a drink after work.

Clearly, I'm not most people! ;)

I was thinking about chefs, waitstaff, bartenders and such in my initial post ... they're often in the same boat as me when it comes to off nights.

Thanks so much for the reply, Laura ... I hope there are benefits to membership beyond the events. :(
That's a bummer about the Mondays. There was a time I found that I had to work on most of the nights events happened..but that changed after a bit...
What about Sunday afternoon events? Even if you brought along the boyfriend...this way you'd still be getting out and meeting NJYPers and having time with the boyfriend- and then having time to rest and recup on Monday?
There's a game night this Sunday at 4....
And the New Brunswick Sundress and Tie Party is on a Sunday... it's a nice "date" and you can meet other couples.
I like to go out Monday night sometimes, even when working "normal" hours, it helps avoid the letdown of the weekend being over. But most people don't seem to agree with me on that.
I'm not generally free on Mondays, but you've got my sympathy, Olivia. Until a week ago, I helped run the copy desk at the Daily Record, working the same sort of evil schedule.
Mondays for me either tend to be busy with work or busy with me trying to do the un-fun tasks I put off because I was doing more pleasurable stuff over the weekend.
I say lets do it. I work a 9-5 job, and i think that monday nights are for "professional drinkers". My buddy who is a golf pro always had monday and tuesday off, and we used to go out hard on sunday night and sometimes even monday night would turn into a 4 am bender (i lived in NY at the time).

So what do we say NJYP members? Are we not young enough to handle a monday night of drinking and making it into work on tuesday?

Monday June 22, 2009 - Lets make something happen!!!

Headlines on tuesday are either going to read "NJYP members prove that they are young by closing down local bar" or it will read "NJYP members decided to take a night off after a long day of work"

Im definitely in for option A.

Any suggestions on a town for a meet?
LOL Kokil... As my 20's rapidly fade away, I think I need to burn the candle at both ends for as long as I still can, so I'd be up for a Monday night event.

I don't think it even needs to be a bar night, could be bowling or an art gallery where drinking isn't the only thing to do so that people who are free to hang out but can't get hammered can still come.
Will,

Thats great to hear man. Glad to hear that you are up for burning the candle, i know i am. So far it seems like noone else is up for a monday night. There is a cool hotel bar called the Vanderbuilt in the Hamilton Park hotel in Flohram Park, NJ. They have fooseball tables, pool tables, and a shuffleboard. Add to it, there is a full service bar and tables for food. I'm gonna ask Laura to setup an event for there and get it posted for next monday night. I think that will be one of the more effective ways to go.
