I'm not sure, it's much bigger in America than in Mexico. It's barely celebrated there so I think its an excuse for Americans to party really. :)

Incorrectly, many say it's the mexican celebration of independence. I know that that is a misconception. I do not, however, know the real cause for celebration so I will now instead pretend that it is the birthday of tequila. O-le, senor tequila, borrando de memoria!

When Titanic sank, it was carrying tons of European mayonnaise which was evantually en route to Mexico. Heart broken Mexicans named a holiday after mayo that sank that day, called "Sinko De Mayo" which eventually became "Cinco de Mayo"
