Sometimes called the “Bermuda Triangle of New Jersey”, the Round Valley Reservoir was created in the 1960s and is the deepest body of water in New Jersey at 180 feet. Surrounding the three-mile-long, two-mile-wide reservoir is the 1,288-acre Round Valley Recreation Area. Join us as we ramble over a portion of the rugged Cushetunk Trail that encircles the reservoir. We will meet in the South Parking Lot at the Cushetunk Trail trailhead before beginning our adventure. After the hike the group may go out for drinks and a late lunch (always a great time).
Member Cost:
$5 for the first 5
$10 for the next 6 to 25
$20 at the door
Non-Member Cost:
$20 online and at the door.
Tickets:
There are a limited number of tickets for sale. Tickets are not mailed, but your name will be kept at the door. All sales are final.
Specs:
The hike is classified as moderate and includes several steep climbs.
We will hike 6 - 7 miles over a 4 hour period.
As with all hikes you must be in good, athletic shape.
Sweeper:
If the group size is larger than 10, we are going to look for a volunteer to act as a sweeper. Sweepers will walk at the end of the hike line and will make sure the group stays together.
Hike Leader:
Keira will be leading this hike.
What to bring:
Hiking boots and at least 2 liters of water (required).
We will stop for lunch/snack about half way through the hike so we recommend you bring something to eat.
We also recommend tissues, plastic bags for garbage, and similar items.
Inclement Weather:
Heavy precipitation will cancel this hike; drizzle will not. Please check your inbox for updates and the NJYP.org calendar. Tickets will be refunded.
Finding the Group:
Meet in the South Parking Lot PROMPTLY at 10:30. Please allow extra travel time as many of these parks are harder to find and we cannot wait for those who get lost.
Directions:
From I-78 West: take Exit 20A (Lebanon). Merge onto Cokesbury Road and continue ahead to US 22. Turn right onto US 22 West. In 0.7 mile, take the jughandle turn onto County Road 629/Lebanon-Stanton Road (there will be a sign for the recreation area at the jughandle). Continue ahead for 1.4 miles, passing the boat launch area, and a left turn into the main park entrance. In the park, follow the signs to the South Parking Lot. We will meet in the South Parking Lot.
