Nestled at the tip of Monmouth County is true New Jersey gem! Almost completely surrounded by water, Sandy Hook is much more than one of New Jersey's most popular beaches. The combination of beach dunes, holly trees, saltwater marshes, coastal defense ruins, a nineteenth-century fort, and a historic lighthouse make this trip one not to miss! After our adventure, we will optionally go out to eat / socialize.
RSVP (to the right) and we will let you know when tix are almost gone, when prices are going up, if there are any changes, etc.
Note: David will not be waiting for late people. In fairness to those who arrive on time, he will be starting the hike on time.
Specs:
The hike is classified as easy to moderate and should last 4 hours.
The total length of the hike will be about 6.5 miles long and we will walk at an easy pace. The actual mileage may vary depending on people's interests.
This hike is good for beginners who are in good athletic shape!
Basic Member Cost:
$10 in advance
$20 at the door
Premium Member Cost:
FREE for Premium Members but please register online.
Tickets:
There are a limited number of Tickets for sale.
Tickets are not mailed, but your name will be kept at the door.
Actual hike is subject to change depending on weather conditions, fallen trees, etc.
All sales are final.
Sweeper:
If the group size is larger than 10, we are going to look for a volunteer to act as a sweeper. Sweepers will walk at the end of the hike line and will make sure the group stays together.
Hike Leader:
David will be leading this hike.
What to bring:
Hiking boots and water (required). Hiking boots will help keep the sand out of your feet when hiking as the trail is a mix of hard surface and sandy surface. We will stop for a light lunch / snack at the picnic area so we recommend you bring something to eat.
Inclement Weather:
Heavy precipitation will cancel this hike; drizzle will not. Please check your inbox for updates and the NJYP.org calendar. Tickets will be refunded.
Directions:
Take GSP to exit 117. Keep left onto RT 36. Follow RT 36 for approx 14 miles until you cross the bridge (you will be able to se the ocean at this point). At the light just after the bridge, make a left onto Hartshorne Drive. Follow that until you see the sign for the Visitor's center, however you should park at Beach/Lot D just before the visitor's center.
How to find the group:
Meet in the Visitor's Center Parking lot.
