Earlier this evening 37 Members attended our first Foodie event!  We took over the balcony area of the relatively new Elevation Burger in Montclair.

Now, the question is, what did you think?
Post your Foodie opinions here (and on Yelp if you have the time).

I like the idea of going to restaurants and trying out new types of food as a group, so this was a good idea. The food was okay, I've had much better burgers and as the environmental nature isn't the most important point when I choose a restaurant, I'd prefer elsewhere - good, but not great.

That being said, food events are really good ideas, the main issue I can see being dealing with the money. One option could be a buffet place like Cinnamon or Minado in Morris Plains, and have everyone put in enough for the buffet, one soda and a tip.

Posted an update on Yelp - are there any other NJYP Yelpers? I've hit a lot of North Jersey, all my reviews are at http://www.yelp.com/user_details?userid=Rm-fS0kR27Mrm0cMeqYyWQ
I thought the food was good, but i do agree that the environment wasn't conducive to talking to a lot of people. I tried... really, i did! ;-)

The staff was very welcoming to us though! And the coupons, t-shirts, and bags were a nice touch.
The food was pretty tasty, and the staff was awesome. Good call on the restaurant and the kind of event!

In regard to Rebecca's and Jessica's comments, I agree that it's tricky to mingle at an event like this. Maybe it's worth it to pick a local bar as an official after-event, and folks can be encouraged to stop by there for a mini-happy hour mingle? I dragged a crowd out to Egan's afterward, and we had a good time. It was just tricky to spread the word to other potentially interested parties by the time we had plans figured out, and a lot of folks had already left before we set out.

That said, I can't wait for the next Foodies event. Mmm, Raul's . . .
