Anyone looking for an easy, convenient, fun and free way to do good in the world? Volunteer with Jersey Cares! I've done lots of projects with them and just became a project coordinator, and would love to make the projects I host more social, a la what NJYP does -- have an activity and go for drinks or food after. It takes just a few minutes to register on www.jerseycares.org, then sign up for any of the hundreds of events when and where its good for you! I'd love to get some NJYP people at the projects I'll be running, so here's the shameless pitch for my own events:

-- Nov. 7th in Newark from 10-1 pm (and we can go for lunch!). We'll be at GoodWill, helping the store organize some of their donations. The project is called Caring Closet in Newark. There's only one spot left right now but if you're interested, email me and we can usually fit people in.

-- Nov. 14th in Caldwell from 11-1 pm (and lunch after if we want). Jersey Cares does a big winter coat drive every year, and needs volunteers to help sort and organize all the donations so we can send them to the places that need them. It's easy manual labor -- honest.

-- Dec. 12th in Caldwell from 11-1 (then lunch). Same deal as on Nov. 14th.

--Dec. 19th in Newark -- they have one big final coat-sorting event so we can get all the coats to needy people for this winter. I'm signed up for it already and they need lots of people for this. I'm not an official coordinator on this one, but email me if you sign up and I'll figure out some way to organize us so we can find each other to do something afterwards or maybe there's a way we can all work in one area together. BUt I won't know who signs up unless you email me ahead of time.

I'll also be the coordinator for other projects in central New Jersey, so keep an eye out or email me if you can't sign up for any of these but are interested in future ones and I'll keep you posted.

Hope to meet a lot of NJYPers soon!

Cheers, Debi

Excellent -- will do! Jersey Cares does lots and lots of projects so check out the site some time but I'll also let you know when I get my schedule beyond December.

Debi,

I'd be interested in volunteering as well. I would love to see some projects in the Mercer county area if possible...

Steve
I checked out the website and am definitely interested in volunteering. Caldwell is close to me, but I am not sure if Nov. 14 will work because I have a housewarming later that afternoon. I will keep you posted, but I should definitely be able to make it on December 12.
Hi Steven, on jerseycares.org, you can do a search of projects by what counties they are in. I don't see any for Mercer right now, but there are in Middlesex, Monmouth and Burlington, for example. I don't know what new ones they may have in the works but they are trying rapidly to expand so keep checking.

Amanda, there's also an earlier shift for coat sorting on the 14th, its listed on the site -- just won't be me as the coordinator. Either way, I hope to see you at the December one!

Debi, thnx 4 posting the details.
Will check the website....
There is still room if people are available for the coat-sorting projects on Nov. 14 and Dec. 12. Let me know if you sign up! Everyone have a great weekend, Debi
We're still looking for a few good men and women to volunter this Saturday for one of Jersey Cares' biggest annual projects. The organization gets thousands of coats donated and really need volunteers to help sort them so we can get them to the people who need them before winter really sets in. With all the worries and concerns we all have these days, its a really great feeling to be part of something that helps other people meet a very basic need. So come help out! It's social, its not too much of your time and its easy manual labor (which I actually like as an alternative to my desk job and good excuse to skip the gym).

It takes just a few minutes to register on www.jerseycares.org, then sign up for this Saturday's coat sorting (or any of the hundreds of events when and where its convenient for you)!
I've just become a project coordinator and would I'd love to get some NJYP people at the projects I'll be running and arrange to go out for lunch afterwards, so here's the shameless pitch:

I'm also running the same project on Dec. 12th.

Drop me a line if you sign up.

Hope to see some of you there,
Debi
