More Info | I thought it would be cool, with the new year and all, to attempt to get a group of friends together to run a 5K in early spring. I tried my first 5K in the late fall, and I really enjoyed it. It gave me something to work towards, and I enjoyed training with a partner. Since I love coordinating events, I figured I'd try to see if anyone else is interested in doing a local 5K run/walk for fitness, and fun. Please reply to this discussion if you would like to join me and some others as a runner or walker.
I know it's over three months away, but I wanted to give it time so I could generate interest and so that people would have time to train. I know I'll need it! I chose the Angels of Hope Race because I liked the organization's causes (raise money for awareness of women's health issues,) and the date and location are convenient. Also, a walk is available for those who would rather not run. For more information and to register: http://www.aoh-nj.org/runw alk2010.html (Don't worry, the info is updated for 2011.) Why Sign Up? - To get in shape - To stay in shape - To challenge yourself - To accomplish a goal - To participate in a fun event with friends - To get a free t-shirt (only for the first 100 participants) - To raise money for a great cause *Invite your friends- the more, the merrier!* Obviously, a post-race celebration will be in order. :o) For beginners: A 5K is 3.1 miles. For a training schedule and other tips, just Google: "Couch to 5K." From my limited experience: I was never much of a distance runner, but I decided to try a 5K last fall just to prove to myself I could do it. I set two goals for myself: 1. To finish the race, and 2. To not stop running/jogging the entire time. Set challenging, but attainable goals and pick an inspiration, they will help you to be more successful. *Feel free to message me with questions you may have. Happy training!*
