Learning Italian

Not sure if this is appropriate to post here, but I am wanting to learn italian just for fun. If someone could point me in the right direction or knows a great class/instructor that doesn't cost an arm & a leg, in the north Jersey area, please let me know. Thank you!

Hey TJ, I was looking into Italian classes a while back. The only thing I can suggest is checking your local high school. Some of them have adult schools at night that you can attend rather inexpensively. I'm in Rutherford and unfortunately they only had Spanish (which I already speak fluently) and French. I did find classes in Ramsey, but is a bit of a ride for me. If you happen to find something let me know. I'm still interested in learning it. John

My company recently merged with an Italian company and I took 2 semesters of Italian so I could better communicate with my colleagues overseas. The professor didn't teach me much at CCM, but the book we used was great, it is called Ciao! and comes with online and audio work. I am sure you can find a copy of it on amazon for a decent price.

P.S. After working through that book on my own, I can speak and translate Italian.

Hi TJ- The book comes with 2 CDs and a key to use the online learning center which has a variety of good tutorials. I have never seen a workbook for Ciao!, the exercises are all in the book. Italian isn't too hard to learn so I wouldn't worry. It was easier than learning Japanese! Kristen, I love this info you gave me. Will make note of it. A friend promised to teach me personally, but this may be a better environment for basics.
