Hello! I was just wondering if anyone knows of a group who volunteers at least once a month. I'm constantly on the look out for volunteer opportunities in the CNJ area. Any ideas would be much appreciated!

Fire Department or Ambulance Corps in your town.

Free to join, free uniform, free training.  What's not to love about it?

The Masonic (Freemason, F&AM) organizations are also great for volunteering and contributing to charity as well.

If you're interested in politics, you can volunteer (or perhaps even be paid) working for a political campaign.  A few years ago, I got a summer job as a canvasser.  With elections in November, they usually start canvassing in May or June.  I've also canvassed as a volunteer in high school on Election Day.

Other than that, I've also done volunteer work at an animal shelter, a women's and children's center, a homeless shelter, and the Boys & Girls Club.  Although most of my volunteering was in north Jersey, since that's where I went to college, you should definitely check out places in central Jersey such as Elijah's Promise in New Brunswick, and branches of the Boys & Girls Club in Union County, Monmouth County, Mercer County, and Perth Amboy.

I recently signed up to volunteer for the ASPCA in Eatontown, NJ ! If you're an animal lover (specifically cats), definitely a great place to volunteer your time!

The Red Cross always looks for volunteers as does the NJ Food Bank. Best of luck.

Thanks for all the suggestions! I was hoping to find a group of people to go volunteer with. Up until last year there was this group called Team Charity that organized different volunteer outings and I used to go with them once a month. That group has since been dissolved and I was just wondering if there were other groups out there who organize and schedule volunteer efforts.

I guess for now, if anyone knows of a volunteer opportunity and you don't want to go by yourself, let me know and if I have nothing else going on and if it's a cause I could get behind, then I'll tag along?

Where were you on Sunday?  I thought you might come out for the Freedom Run.
