Horseback Riding
I love going horseback riding, going on trail rides and such, and I am always looking for people to go ride with. Fall is the best season to go ride! I live in Morris County, but Im willing to travel if anyone knows of any other trails. I'm up for anything so just let me know! :)

The 18th works for me. Is everyone ok with Lord Sterling Stables? If not, how about Seaton Hackney in Morristown? Its very easy to get to, right off 287. I ride there pretty often. I believe the price is around $50 for an hour and a half ride. Lord Sterling is less expensive.. but I have no experience there.

I would prefer Lord Stirling as it is a little closer for me and less expensive is always good.

Deborah, I'm not sure many places have trail rides that late in the day, until evening... and then those places are limited. I'm not positive though.

The 18th is fine with me! If we choose that day I can be there anytime after 1.

OK, looks like the 18th is a popular date. I checked Lord Stirling's website (haven't had a chance to reach a human yet) and renting a horse for an hour is $33, unless you're a Somerset County resident, in which case its $25. They require everyone to wear helmets, which are $3 each (and some kind of riding-appropriate boots, if you need to rent they're $3).
It seems renting horses is available Saturday and Sundays, maybe only 9-10:45 am and 1-3 pm (I don't know if those are start times or what). It seemed more people were interested in an afternoon ride, so I'd suggest aiming for 1 pm if these are the time slots for the day we want. I believe its first come, first served. It also seems like they do guided rides on Sundays, which I'd prefer unless someone with is REALLY familiar with the trail system.
I think for a group rate its $300 for up to 10 riders, so really not a good plan unless there are close to 10 of us, which it doesn't seem like.
From Washington Stables website: its $36 for an hour, looks like also have guides and first come-first served. I didn't see specific hours and it appears there's some way to arrange a group, I don't know if there's a minimum number for that?
So what do people think?

I have never been to Lord Sterling so I dont know exactly how it works, but we would definitely need a trail guide( And you cant rent a horse unless you know the walk, trot, canter). I could get 2 other people to ride with us Sunday the 18th.. so we have about 7 people who are definitely in. If we can get 10 people that would be perfect so try to spread the word!!

If we have a guide it shouldn't be a problem. I have ridden plenty of times with people who had never been on a horse (though never at these places we are discussing). Generally, the horses are well trained and just follow one behind the other. Only the person up front (the guide) needs to know the route / adjust the speed.

I'm in for the 18th at Lord Sterling Stables. Never been riding there but I have a good amount of previous riding experience, just not in the last few years.

I will try to call them and clarify what experience people need, but I concur with what someone else here said: you really only need to be able to sit on a horse and make it stop and go on a trail ride. And if we're a big enough portion of the group, we can request nothing more than a walk. And for anyone who's never ridden: even if there's some trotting, there's not much skill involved there. I've never cantered on a trail ride that wasn't specifically geared to people with more riding experience. (I did a lot of riding years ago but its been rare in recent years.)
