Hello again, Fellow WINOS!!!

I am planning our 3rd Wine BYO, which will be held in Morristown on May 21th at 7:30pm (You're welcome,North-Jersey-ians! haha).  I have selected venues which were recommended by people familiar with the area. (THANKS to Michael & James!)

THE LOCATION FOR DINNER IS:

For the "DANCE portion of the evening" (if you wish to attend), We can go up the road to: "Grasshopper off the Green" (recommended by James!)

For those of you (like myself) who may need hotel accommodations after our night of fun, The Morristown Hyatt is less than a mile away!

Let me know what you think, and if you may be interested!!!

:-)

"TWIST FOR THIS BYO" -- I think it would be nice to have someone win (a small amount of $$) for the "most liked wine"... Everyone can put $5 into a pot upon arrival. (I
will have a list of everyone who is attending and check off names
accordingly). THEN- by the end of the night, once everyone has sampled
all the wine, they can write down their favorite wine. Who ever brought
the wine that has the most votes WINS! We usually have at least 15
people at these events... so that's $75 to the winner!!! (OR we can do a
1st prize, 2nd prize, 3rd prize...).  LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK! :-)

===

Just to recap the "rules":

1. RSVP accordingly - let me know if you have a "+1"
2. Bring a bottle of wine of your choice (red, white, champagne,
rose...)
3. Bring $5 for the "Contest"... Check in with me when you arrive so I
can check your name off. Who ever brings the wine that gets the most
votes will win the $$ (We may do a 1st, 2nd, 3rd Prize...)
4. BE SAFE!!!! There will be a lot of wine to "taste", be sure to pace
yourself, and have a DD, or a place to stay close by (IF NECESSARY)!!!
5. Bring comfortable shoes if you plan on attending the "after party"
:-p

And, as always: REMEMBER: "Life is too short to drink bad wine!"

CHEERS!

Gah, I just realized I can't make it, I have to head out of town that night. I'll keep an eye out for the next one though!
Some Foodies at work have highly recommended la campagnas. They're pretty accomodating.

La Campagne looks great, Michelle. That was actually one of my top choices originally... Not sure why I didn't put it on the "list", LOL. I personally think wine is best with great Italian food, so let's decide between the following:

LA CAMPAGNE:

or

BRICK OVEN:

If you'd like to attend, please let me know what you'd prefer!

I CAN'T WAIT!!! :-)

I will be attending. Probably bringing some kind of red.
Just a reminder to update your RSVP if anything comes up. Also, to add "+1" if it applies.

For now, we will tentatively be at Brick Oven, but if we have too large a group, we may have to move locations. Be sure to follow this forum discussion for updates. :-)
Can people bring something other than wine? I was thinking of a bottle or two of Belgian ale. I've had--and liked--Chimay; any suggestions (Jim, are you in the house?)

DjB
That's a great idea, Doug. Along with a nice Italian vino I'll come prepared with my Belgian home brew (which has high acidity and should match nicely with a tomato-based sauce) and my new honey porter (which has good body and should match well with a cream sauce). And if we find that the Chimay and the home brews aren't a good fit we can always just brown bag it at the Morristown Green. :)
I have to comment on this Jim b/c I'm a huge fan of Belgian beer! My fav. doesn't import to the US but mmm, brings back memories.

I love beer as much as the next guy but being that this is a wine byo and there is the "twist" which is geared around wine I would think maybe we should stick to wine and have a separate beer byo another night, which I would definitely be all about.
Up to you guys though, I'm not the organizer, just giving an opinion
Hi Michael,

You certainly raise a valid point. But I think the spirit of the event (no pun intended) is to bring people together, and not necessarily to critique the wines. I'll defer to Robin to cast the deciding vote, but I don't think anyone would be offended if Doug, Jill, and I chased a few glasses of chardonnay with an IPA.

Jim
I agree with Michael and Jim... I looooooove wine AND beer, but this is a "wine BYO" - I encourage wine to be brought to the events, however it is a get together meant to have fun (not tons of rules). Drinking brings everyone together (regardless of the variety).

Here is what I will say, Doug- since it is technically a wine BYO, if you bring another alcoholic beverage to share you will still need to contribute $5 for the twist portion of the night (however you cannot win, since you are not bringing wine).

I most certainly will not be offended if you guys chase chardonnay with an IPA, just wait after I've had a few glasses of wine to lessen the blow :-p

In the future... if we all want to go to a brewery, I frequent "J J Bittings" in Woodbridge every Sunday night for beer & karaoke (and good times of course!!!)
I'll have my "+1" and we'll be bringing wine.
HELLO FELLOW WINOS (AND IPA DRINKERS, lol) ... Here is the head count so far... If you are on the list in mistake, or you're not and should be, let me know!!!! :-)

*We have 23 people interested already!!! It should be a GREAT time!! Spread the word*
