Hurricane Irene Aftermath: Volunteering/Helping Out

Hi Everyone,

I found this article on NJ.com and it describes some of the ways that one can help the good folks that were negatively impacted by Hurricane Irene this past weekend.

I plan on calling the Governor's Office of Volunteerism as noted in the first bullet in the article and will share any information.

Mike, thank you for posting this. I read a newspaper article this morning which said blood banks are very low because they had to be closed this weekend due to the hurricane. On an average day, they get about 250 donations, so you can imagine the shortage that just being closed even a few days can cause! For those of you in the Bergen County area, I know there is a blood donation center in Paramus. To make an appointment, call 201-444-3900. It's a quick & easy way to help those in need, not only during times of disaster, but every day. I know it may not be as immediately gratifying as directly helping those who have been affected by the hurricane and flooding, but it's a need that shouldn't be ignored. Sorry if I'm sounding preachy, it's just that before I read this article, I didn't realize how important it is to donate. I'll be going there today!
