Event Description

Due to the Government Shut-Down we had to change this from a Mt Minsi Hike to a Mt Tammany Hike.  All of the new details are now pasted below.

This hike is going to blow you away!  We will be climbing the famous Mt Tammany section of Worthington State forest for spectacular mountaintop views of the Delaware River and surrounding area.  We will then continue through beautiful forests on a rarely used trail to Sunfish Pond: a crystal clear glacial pond where we will stop for lunch and soak in the beauty.  A truly remarkable daytime adventure for those spirited souls that are yearning for a challenge!

Eventbrite - Hike: Mt Minsi in PA

Member Cost:
$5 for the first 5 to buy a ticket
$10 for the next 6-25 to buy a ticket
$20 at the door (so please register online)

Non-Member Cost:
$20 online and at the door

Tickets:
Limited tickets are available. All sales are final. Your name will be at the door if you buy a ticket.

Hike Leader:
David will be leading this hike. David will not be waiting for late people. In fairness to those who arrive on time, the hike will start on time.

Hike Specs:
The hike is classified as strenuous with a lot of uphill and downhill.
We will be hiking a total of about 9 to 10 miles and will take approx 6.5 hours.
As with all hikes you must be in good, athletic shape.  This is NOT suitable for beginners.

Sweeper:
If the group size is larger than 10, we are going to look for a volunteer to act as a sweeper. Sweepers will walk at the end of the hike line and will make sure the group stays together.

What to bring:
Hiking boots and 3 liters of water (both required).
Also recommended is non-cotton clothing.
Sunscreen, bug spray, and a light snack/small lunch.
Toilet paper, a garbage bag, backpack, etc.

Inclement Weather:
Any precipitation beyond a drizzle will cancel this hike since we will be walking on potentially slippery rocks. Tickets will be refunded.

Directions:

This place is easy to miss, so careful attention to directions is required. Take Rt. 80 West until mile marker 1.  Immediately past mile marker 1, make the first right hand exit and then immediately turn right into the lot.   This is not the same lot used in the past for Mt Tammany Hikes, but it is adjacent to it so if you miss it, just park in the next lot (labeled Dunnfield Creek Natural Area) and walk over.  We are using this first lot because the other lot always has space issues.

If you miss the parking lot area altogether, take exit 1 then make the first left going under Rt. 80 onto River Rd.  Do not get on 80 East, instead follow River Rd. until you see an underpass under Rt. 80 on the left.  Take that underpass, make a left, and then immediately look for the sign that says Dunnfield Creek Natural Area.  This is the 2nd lot as described above so just walk over to the first lot.

How to find the group:
Meet in the first parking lot.  If you miss the first lot, as explained above, just walk on over to it as they are very close.
